Happy New Year to each of you!

There’s just something great about starting a new year! A fresh start, a new beginning, new ideas, turning a new leaf and setting new goals!

The down side is some make New Year’s “Resolutions” that quickly fade because it gets hard, the new wears off and it hasn’t turned into a new habit or a life change just yet. The gym goes from being packed in January to back to the regular crowd by March.

If we aren’t diligent, disciplined and determined our old habits resurface and we lose our enthusiasm and drive to reach our goals.

So how can we keep moving toward our goals? How do we make a change that will stick?

We have all heard set SMART Goals, find an accountability partner, track your progress and many other proven ways to best reach your goals.  Today I want to throw something out there that you may not know that could make a big difference for you.

Young Living has produced over 80 blends that have been specifically formulated after years of research for both physical and emotional health.  Each essential oil blend is created to maximize the synergistic effect between various chemistries and harmonic frequencies of single oils we love.

Each single essential oil is chosen for its individual properties, fragrant influence, and historical data and how it can contribute to the specific purpose of the blend. According to the Essential Oils Desk Reference, 6th edition, “When chemistry and frequency coincide, noticeable physical, spiritual and emotional benefits can be attained.“ Pretty amazing if you ask me!

There are so many blends to discover! Abundance, Believe, Envision, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Inspiration, Harmony, Into the Future, Live with Passion, Motivation and Present Time just to name a few.

I thought I would highlight a few here but be sure to look into what blends would be good for you to try this year! https://www.youngliving.com/en_US/products/essential-oils/blends

Gratitude: A blend that is designed to elevate, soothe and bring relief to the body while helping to foster a grateful attitude. The New Testament tell us that on one occasion, Christ healed 10 lepers (Luke 17:12-19), but only one returned to express his thanks. This blend embodies the spirit of the grateful leper.

Into the Future: Blend of 10 essential oils that helps one leave the past behind in order to progress with vision and excitement. Instead of settling for mediocrity and sacrificing your success because you are scared of the unknown, use this blend to inspire determination and strong emotional feelings of being able to reach your potential.

Motivation: This oil blend stimulates feeling of action and accomplishment. By including oils that combat restlessness, tension and insomnia (Roman Chamomile), open emotional blocks (Spruce), brings balance and restores confidence (Ylang Ylang) it may provide positive energy to help overcome feelings of fear and procrastination.

Transformation: Repressed trauma and tragedy may be out of sight now but our memories are imprinted in our cells whether good or bad. Stored negative emotions need to be replaced with joy, hope and courage. Transformation blend contains oils that purify like Lemon and Peppermint along with Sandalwood, which stimulates the part in our brain that is the center of our emotions. It also has Idaho Blue Spruce, which is grounding, stimulating to the mind and relaxing to the body among several oils that together empower uplift and help uphold the changes you want to make.

Present Time: A blend of Almond oil, Neroli, Spruce and Ylang Ylang that creates a sense of being in the moment. Being in the present time is the key to progressing and moving forward. Almond oil used as carrier oil but is considered a nutrient for the brain and nervous system. Neroli is stabilizing and strengthening to the emotions, promoting peace, confidence and awareness. Spruce opens and releases emotional blocks, fostering a sense of balancer and grounding. Ylang Ylang promotes relaxation, balances male and female energies, restores confidence and equilibrium and promotes restful sleep.

Sending you abundant blessings in all you do in 2016!

Hi friends!

Wow! December is officially upon us! “Happy Christmas!” as my 6 year old likes to say. Can you believe it is only 24 days away?! You’ve probably already started your shopping and can feel the hustle and bustle revving up inside you! Before you let that take over your mind, lets stop and remember what Linus from Charlie Brown said.

linus-verse

This month I thought it would be fun to share some simple, yummy and fabulous things we do and enjoy around Christmas, with an “oily” touch added.

Christmas Fun

We have an Elf on the Shelf and our elf is Stewart. He gets into all kinds of mischief, including my oils! We use oils on our kids often but they sure thought it was funny Stewart used them too;) Stewart especially loves Joy, Christmas Spirit & we even caught him getting a Raindrop last year after a long trip from the North Pole! I wish I could find the picture!

You can make a cute little Christmas ornament with old bottles too. Just wrap a cute piece of ribbon or twine around the neck of the bottle and hang on the tree!  Joy is my favorite!

Healthy & Happy

Thieves Salve: Coconut oil mixed with 20 drops of Thieves. Apply to bottoms of feet before putting on shoes and socks or on your chest on the way out the door.

Respiratory Rub: 2 Tablespoons coconut oil mixed with 6 drops Lemon, 6 drops Peppermint, 10 drops RC and 2 drops of Thieves. Apply to chest or bottoms of feet before leaving for the day.

Thieves Foaming hand soap: 3-4 tablespoons Liquid Castille Soap, 6 drops Thieves EO, few drops of Vit E oil (optional) and fill remaining with water leaving enough room for the pump.

Diffuse: Combine a few drops of each Christmas Spirit and Orange when stuck inside with the winter weather. Try thieves and Lemon to boost your immune system. Lavender and Cedarwood for a restful, silent night of sleep.

For the foodie

Brownies: Add about 4-5 drops of Peppermint essential oil to your favorite brownie mix for a delicious holiday twist! Warning: Make these to take somewhere or you may eat them all yourself!

Homemade Hot Chocolate: Here’s a gluten and dairy free recipe with 3 simple ingredients! I must try this soon! http://www.sarahbakesgfree.com/2014/12/dairy-free-hot-cocoa-mix.html?showComment=1418788262787#c2186004071932694863

Or you could add a drop of Peppermint to regular hot chocolate!

Lemon Meringue Pie Chex Party Mix: http://www.livinglocurto.com/2015/03/lemon-meringue-pie-chex-party-mix/

Fruit dip with Cinnamon bark essential oil: could be yummy!

Happy Tuesday to you!

I recently read an article that I just felt the need to share with you.  In this article http://www.freedomyou.com/cleaning_products_and_my_health_freedomyou.aspx the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) reported that a 5 year study concluded that America’s worst air pollution is found inside our homes.

Many homes showed chemical levels 70 times higher than that of outside air!

Wow that is just crazy to me but the more I read, the more I become aware of all the toxins we use daily in our home; many of them before we head out the door in the morning!

So you have these essential oils. You’ve heard so many great things about them. You bought them. You look at them often. You use them occasionally. But really you have no idea the power of these little bottles of oil that you possess!

Well I’m going to give you some great ideas on how to put them to use. Let’s discuss some simple changes that done consistently over time will make a huge impact on you and the ones you love!

If you read the article then you know some of the common items we use daily that are giving off some major toxins in our homes.

A big part of my journey with essential oils is learning to use them to reduce the amount of toxins in our home. This is a process no doubt. It can feel overwhelming at times.  Several of my friends encouraged me to just pick one thing a month to swap out with a more natural, DIY product that I already have all the supplies to make.

Pretty amazing to look at the big changes we have made and without feeling overwhelmed at all.

Bonus: they have turned out to be more cost effective too!

Here are some ideas for reducing toxins in your home by using alternatives to the cleaning products mentioned in the article:

Dishwashing Detergent:

I use wellnessmama.com often for many recipes I try and have come to love from cooking recipes to making personal care products. Check it out her alternative DIY dishwashing detergent recipe here http://wellnessmama.com/12217/homemade-dishwasher-detergent/

Or if you aren’t up for DIY, she gives her review and choices for natural dishwasher detergent options here http://wellnessmama.com/2592/dishwasher-detergent-options/

Air Fresheners:

My first choice for an air freshener is using my diffuser with my favorite choice of oils. Some of my favorites are Purification and Orange, Lemon & Thieves or just plain Lemongrass.  Try some of your own recipes or you can also search Google images for young living diffuser recipes for inspiration!

If you are a DIYer, grab a 4 oz spray bottle and add 1 oz Vodka, 7-10 drops of choice essential oils. Combine & shake then fill rest of bottle with distilled water! Try Lemon & Lime or Peppermint & Lemon or your own creation! Use to freshen up linens, bedding or to scent the air.

Tub and Tile Cleaners:

First I’ll give a shout out to my friend Crystal Wehr that swears by using simply baking soda and a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner! How easy is that? Use about a tablespoon of baking soda or enough so that the mixture is thick and gritty. Apply and let sit about 5-10 minutes and then use a scrubber.  I recently tried and think it works great!

Haven’t tried Young Livings Thieves Household Cleaner yet?! What are you waiting for? Check it out here https://www.youngliving.com/en_US/products/home/natural-cleaning/thieves-household-cleaner

Here’s another idea for cleaning tub and tile I found! http://moneysavingmom.com/2013/04/homemade-tub-tile-cleaner.html

Laundry Soap:

This year at the Young Living International Convention they introduced Thieves Laundry Soap and I actually love it! It can be used in all types of washers including HE. Each bottle washes 64 loads. I really like smell of it and feel great about using it. Give it a try and let me know how you like it!

But if you are into DIY here’s a simple recipe to try!

http://www.diynatural.com/homemade-laundry-detergent-soap/

Fabric Softeners/ Dryer Sheets:

I personally don’t really use fabric softeners. For some reason I just never felt the need. I was more of a dryer sheet girl. But if you are interested in fabric softeners here is a great website to check out! http://www.livingwellspendingless.com/2013/03/13/green-thrifty-cleaning-products/ She even includes a printable cheat sheet to have on hand to make several natural products, including fabric softener.

Several months back I decided to quit using dryer sheets and start using wool dryer balls instead. I like adding essential oils to mine to make our clothes smell so fresh and so clean! I will say I miss dryer sheets, well mainly my clothes being completely static free but I do feel better about putting clothes on my kids now and I noticed if I can get the clothes out of the dryer before they are over dried then I have better luck with static. I just got this recipe from a friend for DIY dryer sheets and I cannot wait to try so I thought I’d share! http://viewfromthefridge.com/homemade-dryer-sheets/

Well I sure do hope this has helped you get some ideas on how to get some toxins out of your homes or at least opened your eyes to all the toxins in our lives. Clearly I am not an expert in this area but there are so many people out there sharing their recipes, ideas and experiences with us so we might as well take advantage of all the work they’ve already saved us!

Join me next month to get some fun DIY Christmas gift ideas!

Stay oily and be blessed,

Ashley

Apple Pie Protein Bars

I found this recipe on Pinterest the other day, and thought it looked pretty tasty! Make sure to click here to go check out all the details and instructions.

It calls for protein powder, and I thought this would be a perfect fit for our Vanilla Spice Pure Protein Complete. Seriously. You know your mouth is watering. Next, I decided to kick up the spices a notch and used a drop of Nutmeg and Cinnamon oils to take it to the next level.

When my oldest daughter took the first bite, her eyes lit up. She looked at me and said, “Mom! You should work in a bakery because you are really good at it.” There you go folks. Totally kid approved. Let’s get started.

Here is the original supply list and instructions:

Ingredients
  1. 2 cups gluten free oat flour (For the paleo option, use 1 cup coconut flour)
  2. ½ cup coconut flour, sifted (Can sub for almond or more oat flour)
  3. ½ cup vanilla vegan or paleo friendly protein powder
  4. 2 T granulated sweetener of choice (optional)*
  5. 1 T cinnamon
  6. 1 tsp mixed spice
  7. 1 tsp nutmeg
  8. 1/4 cup almond butter (can sub for any nut butter)
  9. ½ cup brown rice syrup (sub for maple syrup in the paleo version)
  10. 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  11. 1 T + dairy free milk of choice**
Instructions
  1. Line a large baking dish with greased paper and set aside.
  2. In large mixing bowl, combine the flour, protein powder, granulated sweetener, cinnamon, nutmeg and mixed spice and mix well.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the nut butter and liquid sweetener and heat until melted. Pour the wet mixture into the dry and mix well. Add the unsweetened applesauce and mix until combined- The batter should be crumbly.
  4. Using a spoon, add the dairy free milk of choice one spoonful at a time until a thick, firm batter is formed.
  5. Transfer to lined baking dish and press firmly. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

First, I mixed together the dry ingredients. I used 1 cup of coconut oil and 1/2 cup of almond flour. I added a little bit of dry pumpkin pie spice more for color, added palm sugar and used a masher to make sure all the lumps were out.

photo 1

I also added in our delicious and nutritious Vanilla Spice Pure Protein Complete.

photo 2

I then added into the dry mix one drop of Nutmeg and one drop of Cinnamon Bark.

photo 3

The smell. You guys. I wish you were here to experience it because a picture will never come close to that kind of Fall awesomeness. In a bowl, you then combine the brown rice syrup and nut butter. I used a “no nut” butter since my kid’s schools are nut free. Then they can still pack these along for lunch. Here is a picture of brown rice syrup in case you have never bought some.

photo 4

Next you combine the wet to the dry and begin to stir. In the beginning it was still crumbly just like the directions suggested.

photo 1

I added one tablespoon of almond milk at a time until it stayed together and was more firm. Mine looked more like this. Next time I may go ahead and add just a tiny bit more for texture perfection.

photo 2

So, then you just dump it into your paper lined pan. It says large pan. Folks, don’t go bigger than 9×9. I may even double the recipe for that next time.

photo 3

Here is a fun trick. You have to pat it down into bars. I like to make things easy. So, I add another layer of paper and get a glass pan to fit inside and then press it down.

photo 4

Now you have bars!

photo 5

Chill and enjoy!

Heather

Ashley’s Tue. Scents

Today I am so excited for you all to hear from my dear friend Ashley. I met Ashley at an essential oils class and she joined our oily family that day. I am so thankful she came to that class!

Over the past 2 years Ashley has become a dear friend. I have learned so much from her about essential oils and being a boy mom. She also continually challenges me in my faith.

Ashley is one of our Silver leaders and has such a heart and passion for helping others live healthier lives full of wellness, purpose and abundance!

On the first Tuesday of every month you are going to get a chance to hear from Ashley! I am so excited for you all to hear from her each month and I hope you enjoy her quick tip this month.

IMG_7436

Do you ever just wake with a case of the “grumps”?  Like for no reason you find yourself irritated at all the little things that normally don’t bother you. A million requests before you make it out of bed and the coffee just can’t brew fast enough. Or you feel extremely nervous, restless or stressed but you don’t know why.

Maybe you are overwhelmed with feelings of fear, frustration or even panic.

When this happens to me, I stop whatever I’m doing, go get my oils and pray for God to use them. I cast out all those feelings because I know they aren’t coming from God.  (Side note-if you haven’t seen the movie War Room yet, you should! But that’s not what I’m writing about today)

Idaho Blue Spruce to the rescue

Just a few days ago I was reading about oils I could use for specific emotional challenges. Idaho Blue Spruce was everywhere!

The Northwestern Native Americans considered it a sacred tree and they used it for a variety of functions. I just kept noticing that it was listed as one of top oils to try for 15 of the 29 emotions I read about!

Wow that is amazing!

Its fragrant influence is to help release emotional blocks to bring about a feeling of balance and grounding. I can definitely use more of that!

You can inhale directly, diffuse, apply topically or take in a capsule. Idaho Blue Spruce is found in Young Living blends Transformation and Believe and Valor II! Believe and Valor have always been some of my favs! I must love that Spruce!

I am a boy mom. I am blessed with three funny, silly and loving little people but most of our days are filled with an array of emotions from giggles to tears and everything in between. We use a lot of Joy and Stress Away but excited to incorporate more Idaho Blue Spruce in my life!

I’m so thankful our Heavenly Father loves us and knew what we would need! I hope you find this helpful!

Please contact me with questions or other topics you would like to hear about!
